When Atlantis touched down after it’s final mission on July 21, 2011, the occasion also marked the end of the Space Shuttle era at NASA. Atlantis was the fourth shuttle to join the fleet and launched for the first time on Oct. 3, 1985. During its 33-mission career, it spent 306 days in space, rotating Earth 4,848 times and amassing almost 126 million miles traveled. You can see Atlantis now at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
