Short and fat, the Gee Bee Model R-1 airplane certainly doesn't meet modern expectations for what a fast aircraft should look like. But in the 1930s, the recognizably stubby airplane was the very epitome of speed. Well, speed and danger. "Gee Bee" stood for Granville Brothers, the airplane's Massachusetts-based designer. They built just one R1, and In 1932 it won the Thompson Trophy race and set a land speed record of 296 mph. But the plane also crashed several times and even killed a pilot.
This exquisite GeeBee R-1 Mahogany Model is handcrafted by our master craftsmen from the finest Mahogany Wood. Attention is given to every detail, resulting in unsurpassed quality. Models come complete with a detachable wood display stand. The model will be delivered to your door securely in a foam fitted shipping box. These models make a great gift for any aviation enthusiast, veteran or history buff alike.
