Our “Reluctant Dragon” model represents a B-17G that was delivered in 1943 and based in England (Snetterton) in 1944. It received severe damage during a bombing raid over Berlin on May 8, 1944. The aircraft had been heavily damaged by fighters. Seven crew members bailed out. Six became POWs. The seventh crewmember was listed as killed in action. The remaining three crewmembers managed to get the damaged “Reluctant Dragon” back to base. Interesting fact: There is one other B-17 named the “Reluctant Dragon” that is on display at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene TX.
